Are you a psychologist with war trauma experience?
Psychologists with war trauma experience may be of great help to the Ukrainian colleagues by offering advice, guidance and moral support. If you wish to donate your time to help, please read the following note from Dmitry Garyushkin, President of Ukrainian Neuropsychological Association and Director of the Center of Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation "Neuro Brain Boost."
Dear colleagues,
My name is Dmitry Garyushkin, I am President of Ukrainian Neuropsychological Association and Director, Center of Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation "Neuro Brain Boost." It so happened that we in Ukraine are in a state of war with Russia, and nobody expected such treachery from the Russian Federation. Many city residents are still unable to evacuate and are in a most precarious situation; there are many casualties among the peaceful population; many witness death every day, and this is not something one can get used to.
Therefore we are asking you to help us with crisis psychology, to offer guidance to Ukrainian psychologists. Unfortunately we don't have relevant experience, many local psychologists want to help but don't know how to do it correctly and not to make things worse. It is essential to provide help now. People are huddled in bunkers and basements, and even those who escaped to safety cannot find a peace of mind. Many suffer from psychological breakdowns and make rash decisions, which may cost them their lives.
Therefore we are asking for your help, thank you for your cooperation.
Psychologists with war trauma experience may be of great help to the Ukrainians even if they don't speak Ukrainian or Russian. While they may not be able to provide direct counseling services to the general population, they may be able to offer valuable advice and guidance to Ukrainian colleagues. And moral support from colleagues is invaluable in and of itself. In my experience many Ukrainian professionals speak decent English, even if the general population does not.
